Apple, Honey, Nutmeg and Chia Seeds Oatmeal

After a long summer spent at home, I’m finally back for another year at school… It feels weird to know that I’m halfway through college, but it should be an exciting year! At least that’s the kind of positive thinking I’m trying to do, instead of reminiscing on the gone summer days. I’ve had very little time to rest since I got here, as I’m moving into a new house, setting up my room, walking around in downtown Philly, and of course preparing for school.

For these reasons I need the energy to get going with all my daily tasks as soon as I wake up. My go-to breakfast is this oatmeal recipe, which came together as a last minute “pantry-wonder” with lots of flavors and a complex taste, blending apples, blackberries, honey, and nutmeg. It’s packed with nutrients from the oats and the chia seeds to get moving early in the morning, and stay full until lunch. I’ll be sure to make it tomorrow on the first day of classes. Bon appétit!

Total time: 10 minutes

  • 1/2 cup old fashioned oats
  • 3/4-1 cup water
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1/4 apple
  • a handful of blackberries
  • a drizzle of honey
  • 3 pinches of ground nutmeg

  1. Mix the oats and the water in a bowl, and microwave on high for 2 minutes.
  2. Add 2 pinches of ground nutmeg, stir, and microwave again for 2-4 minutes depending on your desired texture.
  3. Once the oatmeal is ready, stir in the chia seeds and let it sit for a couple of minutes so that the chia seeds plump up.
  4. Meanwhile, cut your apple quarter into thin strips.
  5. Top the oatmeal with the apple strips, some blackberries, a drizzle of honey, and another pinch of nutmeg. Enjoy!

TIP: This recipe is also delicious with blueberries and almond milk!

  • 3 pincées de noix de muscade rapée
