I can barely wait for Thanksgiving break! Only two days of classes left until I get to leave for NY and enjoy some well deserved time off with my roommate and her family. Over the past three years, this has become one of my favorite traditions of the fall semester, and one that I look forward to from the very beginning of the school year. I don’t know about you, but we’re freezing here in Philly! I mean, quite literally, as ice puddles took over the streets. With the temperature dropping to new lows, nothing screams warmth and comfort like a big bowl of delicious mushroom risotto! I’m serious. I just got home from a long day of classes and as my fingers partly defrost (while typing these very words), the only thing that keeps me going is the delicious risotto-perfume emanating from my kitchen. And not just any kind of risotto, but a mushroom risotto to the power of 4! Continue reading “Quattro-Mushrooms Risotto”

It’s time for me to share another one of my food obsessions, and this one is called “ricotta”. Just the sound of it fills my mind with so many dreams of fluffy creamy deliciousness. If a restaurant offers some kind of homemade ricotta appetizer, you can be sure that I will order it right away. My favorite preparation being “sprinkled with sea salt and freshly ground pepper, and a light drizzle of fruity olive oil”. Spread it over some freshly toasted sourdough, and you have the perfect bite. Continue reading “Grilled Zucchini Roll-Ups with Black Truffle Ricotta”

I have an announcement to make: yesterday, I went to a “Thanksgiving potluck” (yes, we might be a little over eager here)! This wasn’t your typical potluck though, as it was jointly organized by two of the campus’ food clubs, one of which I am a member of. So we’re talking delicious poultry, mouth-watering sides like crispy roasted brussel sprouts, mashed potatoes, or cranberry sauce, and fully satisfying desserts such as pumpkin and apple pies. Now among them all, one dish required me to get seconds: “pumpkin mac n’ cheese”! Continue reading “Creamy Acorn Squash Linguine with Fresh Thyme”

Philly is well known for its delicious foodtrucks. The city’s filled with them, and they provide wonderful alternatives to more expensive sit-down places. They’re also a great way not to get bored with your daily meals, as there are so many to choose from, all specializing in different types of food. On my campus specifically, there isn’t a single truck without a long line between 11:30-3. It always amazes me. Though the options are very varied, one of the most classic foodtruck “specialty”, or staple recipe, here is “grilled chicken over rice”.
